Surgery Day-Pre op

 March 31st

Kaden and I had to be at the hospital this morning at 6 , which meant we had to leave the house at 5:20. Although, we didn't have many hours to sleep, the sleep we did have was pretty decent so we will count our blessings there.

Kaden woke up this morning pretty nauseous, so the ride up was not a great one. They had him do a "bowel prep" yesterday that was a surprise. So he really hadn't eaten the best food and then he had to fast all night.

We checked in a little late, but they were able to still get things done on time for the surgery.

The anesthesiologist came and put in his IV. He also gave him some medicine to help the nausea and make him feel "sleepy." It took all of about a minute to kick in and he was out of it.

The anesthesiologist said, "ok it's time for a quick goodbye and then we will head out." I gave him a hug and kiss and told him I loved him. He mumbled back something that sounded like "I love you too.." and that was it.

They wheeled him to the OR at 7:30am on the dot. I doubt he will even remember going back. We'll have to ask him when he wakes up later today.

My heart is heavy. I don't want him to have to go through this surgery and recovery. It is a pretty helpless feeling to watch them wheel your loved one away, knowing what his body will have to endure.

At the same time I am grateful. Grateful for doctors and nurses who are willing to go to school, take the long hours away from their family, and sacrifice so much to be able to have the knowledge and expertise to help my husband.  I am also thankful for the support of all of you. We are so blessed to have the tribe we have!

And now we wait...
